A Banana Peach Smoothie with a Citrus Lemon Twist
When it comes to smoothies there are so many delicious options, combinations, and varieties. That’s why I love smoothies so much, they never, ever get old. If you get tired of one flavour, you can simply switch up the ingredients and have an entirely different drink to enjoy. This Citrusy Banana Peach Smoothie has a unique combination of ingredients that work together wonderfully to make a refreshing, healthy, creamy beverage.
Health Benefits Of Adding Lemon to a Smoothie:
Whether you are enjoying a Banana Peach Smoothie like this one, or a green smoothie, a berry smoothie, or any other smoothie variety, adding lemon is always a great idea. Lemon has many health benefits and while it adds a perfect citrusy zing, it also boosts wellness in the body as lemon:
- increases digestive enzyme production for better digestion
- contains loads of antioxidants to prevent against free radical damage
- is packed with vitamin C for immune boosting
- improves the body’s ability to absorb iron
When it comes to adding lemon to your smoothies, you can add just a squeeze, or load it with tons of lemon juice and zest like I do in this banana peach smoothie recipe!
Ingredients in this Citrusy Banana Peach Smoothie:
To make this refreshing, creamy, and filling smoothie you don’t need very many ingredients and there is room for swaps and substitutions if you prefer a little bit of a different flavour or if you want to keep the smoothie entirely vegan. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Frozen banana
- Frozen peach
- Lemon
- Vanilla extract
- Plain coconut yogurt (or Greek yogurt if you can tolerate it)
- Honey (or coconut nectar for vegan)
- Collagen peptides (for protein, but you can swap for any unflavoured or vanilla protein powder of your choice)
- Unsweetened almond milk
- Ice
I prefer plain coconut yogurt as it’s a great dairy-free option that brings in healthy fats to make the smoothie more filling, and the collagen peptides are my go-to as they add protein and amino acids to the smoothie without changing the flavour. Vanilla plant-based or even whey protein is fine, but it will change the flavour of the smoothie somewhat!
Why This Banana Peach Smoothie Is Great For Breakfast!
In the mornings our bodies can use a little pick me up especially if we are feeling sluggish and this citrusy banana peach smoothie is a great way to start the day. First of all it has carbohydrates from the banana and peach to instantly boost energy, and the lemon and fibre from the fruits work to get the digestive system moving…just as effectively as a cup of coffee would (if you know what I mean).
The protein from the peptides and healthy fats from the yogurt balance out the carbohydrates and make this smoothie more filling so that you aren’t hungry an hour after enjoying it.
This smoothie is truly like a burst of sunshine in the morning and will definitely put you on the right track for the day!
In the summer months this smoothie is an especially great option as it contains peach which you can swap for fresh when peaches are in season! However, that being said, this smoothie is enjoyable and doable any time of year and can also be beneficial in the dark winter months when sunshine is at an all time low… it’s sunshine in a glass instead!
