Are you all getting into the groove of September and back into your post-summer routine? I’m slowly getting there, although I really like to stretch summer out as far as I can! This past week we had a stretch of hot weather so it was the perfect time to make a smoothie bowl.
I teamed up with Vega and Silk to take part in the Build a Better Smoothie Campaign and I’m so excited to share with you the recipe that I came up with!
When it comes to this time of year it seems like everyone goes into overdrive, so having some extra nourishment and brain-boosting ingredients in your diet can definitely help, especially when you feel like you are running on empty.
Whether you are heading back to university, or getting your family back in the Fall routine, a little extra brain food goes a long way. It seems that this time of year I drag my feet a little bit as the weather changes, routine morphs, and even the sun starts to set earlier… which is why the extra Vitamin D from the Silk almond milk is definitely helpful!
This Mocha Nut Smoothie Bowl contains over 20g of protein, healthy omega fatty acids, and the mineral selenium, all of which help to boost brain function for energy, clarity, and a better mood.
The Vega One all-in-one nutritional shake in Mocha flavour worked perfectly for my smoothie bowl adding great nutrition and a rich chocolatey-coffee flavour. I chose to balance that flavour out with frozen bananas, cocoa powder, and Silk unsweetened almond milk blended into a smooth, creamy consistency. I poured this delicious, healthy mixture into a bowl and topped it with pecans, brazil nuts (super rich in selenium!), and cocao nibs.
Oh, and not to forget a perfect drizzle of dark chocolate to finish it all off.
If you love mocha flavours, rich dark chocolate, and are a huge fan of smoothie bowls like me, this recipe is definitely one to add to your September eating routine!
Mocha Nut Smoothie Bowl
- Smoothie Bowl Base:
- 1 scoop Vega all-in-one nutritional shake in Mocha flavour
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 banana, peeled and frozen works best
- 5 ice cubes
- ½ cup Silk unsweetened almond milk
- ¼ cup water
- 1 tablespoon cocao nibs
- 1 tablespoon crushed pecans
- 4-5 brazil nuts
- drizzle of Silk unsweetened almond milk
- drizzle of melted 70% dark chocolate
- Blend the smoothie bowl base ingredients in a high speed blender until smooth.
- Pour into a bowl and garnish with the toppings.
