10 Simple Fall Wellness Tips

Fall is upon us and it’s such a lovely time of year. While I do call summer my favourite season, I do my best to embrace the beauty that Fall brings with its rich colours, early sunsets, rainy days, and cozy sweaters!

September is actually considered one of the busiest months with Back-To-School and back to normal routines for many of us. Along with that comes the dreaded cold and flu season, so it’s best to be proactive in making sure you are armed with tools to keep you feeling your best.

Here are 10 simple fall wellness tips that anyone can try to ensure the fall season is an enjoyable one.

1. Give your immune system extra support against colds and flus.

One of the best things you can do for your immune system is reduce stress and get some extra insurance in the form of Vitamin D and Vitamin C. Both of these vitamins play an important role in immune support so that your body can fight of pesky colds and flus. iHerb carries a variety of immune boosting supplements including the high quality Thorne Research Vitamin D-5000 capsules, and Vitamin C with Flavanoids

(*always check with your primarily health care provider before starting any new supplements)

2. Warm up, de-stress, and boost your metabolism with cinnamon spiced tea.

Tea is a wonderful drink choice in the fall months as it warms you up on chilly days and can give you that sense of relaxation. I love to make a cup of tea to take on-the-go for a crisp fall walk or curl up with on the couch.

Cinnamon spiced tea in particular can help to naturally boost your metabolism as cinnamon is known to have thermogenic effects (source). Pukka Organic Vanilla Chia Tea from iHerb  is a great choice, is caffeine free, and tastes incredible.

3. Do a disinfecting deep clean in the kitchen & bathrooms.

With fall bringing colder weather you’ll naturally be spending more time indoors. Take the opportunity to give the areas of your house that are likely to collect germs (ie. the kitchen and the bathrooms) a deep clean with the fresh smelling and all natural Puracy Natural Surface Cleaner from iHerb .

It has an incredible lemongrass scent and doesn’t contain any toxic additives or harmful chemicals.

4. Make some healthy comfort food recipes.

Nourish your body with some healthy comfort food that will fill you up and keep you feeling warm and cozy. I love soups, stews, chilis and these Spaghetti Squash Burrito Bowls made with ingredients from iHerb.

iHerb carries over 30,000 natural products including supplements as well as a whole grocery section, and they ship to over 180 countries!

5. Prevent overwhelm by making a “Delegate & Delete” list.

With all the busyness that comes with the fall season and getting back into routines, you might find you have way too much on your to-do list. This can cause a feeling of overwhelm and stress which can in turn disrupt your sleep and hinder your immune system.

Make a list with three columns “delegate”, “delete”, and “to-do”. Consider all of the things you feel need to get done and write them down on the list, dividing them between the columns.

Can anything be delegated to someone else (a spouse, friend, or family member?). Can anything be removed because it’s simply not 100% necessary (be mindful of doing things simply because of people pleasing tendencies…it’s OK to say No!). The rest, put under your to-do list.

You’d be surprised at how much you can actually eliminate and how much less stress you’ll feel when you’re done.

6. Diffuse essential oils and do five minutes of deep breathing daily.

Deep breathing has been shown time and time again to be so beneficial for our physical and mental health. Turn on a diffuser with essential oils and practice a 5-minute deep breathing session every day. This could be part of your morning routine or something you do in the evenings.

The Artnaturals Aroma Oil Diffuser and Pranarom Purity Diffusion Blend from iHerb are both great choices to get you started.

7. Boil cinnamon sticks to give your home a delicious, fall inspired aroma.

I love the smell of cinnamon as it is so warming, comforting and aromatic. One of the simplest tricks to making your home smell like fall to help boost your mood is to boil whole cinnamon sticks in a large pot of water on the stovetop for 2-5 minutes, then turn the heat to the lowest setting and let the pleasant scent of cinnamon waft throughout your home.

You can also make bundles of cinnamon sticks and place them in your hot air vents for a similar effect. iHerb carries Frontier Natural cinnamon sticks that come in a large bag to last you the whole fall season (and beyond)!

8.Give your lips some love with all-natural lip balm.

As the seasons change from summer to fall, the air naturally becomes less humid and our dewy summer skin can become dry and our lips can become chapped. Keep a selection of Sierra Bees Organic Lip Balms from iHerb in your purse, diaper bag, car, and around the house so you can apply some moisture when needed.

9. Carry a natural hand sanitizer in your purse or car.

With colds and flus in stronger circulation in the fall and winter months it’s a great idea to have a to-go sanitizer handy that you can use while you are out and about. I prefer a sanitizer that isn’t harsh on the skin and does the trick.

iHerb carries the Mild by Nature on-the-go hand cleanser that is alcohol free in a lovely lemongrass scent.

10. Re-establish a regular sleep routine.

It’s amazing how easily summer can throw off all of our routines, am I right?! Especially when it comes to sleep. With the later evenings, summer vacations, and mid-day naps, our sleep schedule can go a little haywire.

Focus on re-establishing a solid sleep routine in the fall to boost immunity, mood, and overall wellness. If you need some extra sleep support you can try taking Thorne Magnesium CitraMate from iHerb as magnesium is a natural anxiety reducer, muscle relaxant, and sleep aid. (source
