The other weekend we took a trip to Calgary for the Stampede! Whenever the Hubby and I are in Calgary we stop at this wonderful grocery store called Community Natural Foods. The market has a great little deli/cafe where we load up on delicious dishes (think ‘Whole Foods’ concept) and get in some healthy eats!
This awesome gem-of-a-place also has a great smoothie bar and they make a specific smoothie called… yep, you guessed it… The “C-Spot”. I’m not sure if it’s referring to the C in the “Community” name, or because it’s made in “Calgary”, or because it sounds a lot like another letter close to C that often is followed by “spot” (this smoothie really is orgasmic), OR if it has to do with the fact that this smoothie is LOADED, and I mean L O A D E D with Vitamin C!
ALL of the ingredients contain ample amounts of the immune boosting vitamin. I took a snapshot of the menu and decided I was going to recreate this totally awesome Vitamin C packed smoothie at home for all of you lovely NITK readers to make in your own kitch’s!
The original smoothie is made with orange juice, strawberries, raspberries, and pineapple!
I thought to myself… great, I love simple!
However… I don’t have a juicer at home and I didn’t want to buy store-bought orange juice because it’s typically not the most natural and tends to be altered in some way or another. So, I thought, I’ll just use a whole orange, why not?!
Along with fresh raspberries, frozen pineapple and frozen strawberries (to keep the smoothie thick, icy, and cold), I peeled a whole, bright, juicy navel orange, and popped it all in the blender!
Before pressing GO, I decided to toss in one of my favourite smoothie additions – ground flaxseed.
Flaxseed is wonderful! It’s great source of fibre, healthy omega fats, and lovely “lignans” – plant compounds that have awesome antioxidant properties!
Summer is meant to be fully enjoyed, and every now and then one of those weird Summer cold/flu things try to sneak their way in. So, why not blend up this super amazing, delicious C-Spot Smoothie and build up your immunity to fend off any yucky bug that might try to ruin your sunny Summer days – we all know these lovely hot days don’t stay for long!
- 1 whole navel orange, peeled
- ½ cup fresh raspberries
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 cup frozen pineapple
- 2 heaping tablespoons ground flaxseed
- ¼ tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup water
- a few drops of stevia (optional)
- a scoop of high quality natural or vanilla vegan or whey protein powder (optional)
- Add all ingredients to a blender.
- Blend for 1-2 minutes.
- Enjoy!
What is your favourite way to pack in the Vitamin C? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!

Broccoli is my favorite way! I do get a stomachache after eating too much 🙁 so this smoothie will definitely help!
