Energizing Winter Smoothie Bowl & An Energy Boosting Giveaway

I have days every now and then when I think back on my childhood, teen years, and even early 20’s and wish I had that kind of energy again. Not that I don’t have energy now, I do, but it’s definitely not as consistent! I find especially through the winter that my energy waxes and wanes.

Some days I’m ready to crawl into bed at 7pm or I find myself wanting to literally tape my eyelids open in the afternoon. Can you relate??

I’ve found over the years that my nutrition plays a HUGE role in my energy levels. If I’m hydrated, choosing whole foods over processed foods, and making sure I don’t skip my meals or snacks, the energy is there, but I, just like many people, get busy and let those things slide on occasion so it’s a work in progress!

My clients also deal with the same energy lows and often when we work together to tidy up their nutrition habits we see big changes… it’s consistency that tends to be the biggest challenge for all of us!

When Genuine Health recently sent me their greens + extra energy powder and I was intrigued! I’ve used greens powders before and have loved the benefit of that extra boost of greens in my diet but the extra energy aspect peaked my interest.

I expected the product to have a bunch of green tea extract and that wouldn’t work for me because I actually can’t drink coffee or green tea. It makes me incredibly jittery and unfocused! So when I saw that this product didn’t have either I was pleasantly surprised. Genuine Health chose to use whole foods like alfalfa, barley, and wheat grass, as well as rich botanicals and energizing herbs like siberian ginseng and ginkgo biloba to maximize nourishment, improve energy levels, and alkalinize the body.

The greens powder contains naturally occurring caffeine from taurine and the kola nut that is proven to give longer lasting energy without the jittery feeling or the inevitable crash.

Another awesome addition to this greens powder which I was super keen on is the non-dairy probiotics! Energy boosting AND digestive boosting… double whammy!

I decided to use the greens + extra energy in a delicious smoothie bowl. Who doesn’t love smoothie bowls?! (I do.. obviously! See here, here, and here!)

The powder has a natural orange flavour and worked wonderfully with frozen raspberries, banana, navel orange (to amp up the orange flavour a tad more), and almond milk! Of course, the most fun part of a smoothie bowl is the additions on top! I used hemp, chia, raspberries, a couple blackberries, and sliced banana to give it texture and boost the nutrition.

I loved how light the flavour of the powder was in the smoothie bowl, definitely not overpowering like some powders can be, and what I loved even more was the subtle boost of energy it gave me for the remainder of the day!

  • I take vitamin D3 for extra energy, I was having a problem with my energy crashing in the afternoon and it has helped.

  • I amp up my energy with exercise! As much and as often as I can – especially in the winter when it gets so much harder to motivate yourself in the afternoon! This product would be a GREAT addition to my repertoire! 🙂

  • What a fabulous giveaway. Winter certainly does take its toll on people (if you live in Canada!) I do love it here though, so I make sure I take Vitamin D and actually avoiding coffee helps me with my energy. I only have organic coffee on weekends now. Genuine Health has some great products–love their fish oil too.

    Thanks!!

  • Oh boy could I ever use some extra energy! haha I never would have thought to search out a greens powder for a boost but I’d love to give this a try (as I’ve been trying to cut out coffee I am in desperate need of a better energy boost! haha) 🙂

  • Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll have to try it!!

I try to get my energy from making sure I eat enough protein throughout the day. If I don’t I can definitely feel myself crashing.

I do find it hard to make sure I’m getting enough greens too so an addition of a powder like this would be super beneficial.
